WHAT AAU AGE GROUP AM I IN?
(UPDATED 8/31/09 for NEW AAU PROGRAM YEAR 9/1/09-8/31/10)
Sorry for any confusion prior to this update
for the new AAU program year!

For Girls, the Age Group/Grade Listing is Open(HS), 16u/11th, 15U/10th, 14U/9th, 13U/8th,12U/7th, 11U/6th, 10U/5th, 9U/4th, 8U/3rd, 7U/2nd (and younger).
For girls, your age group is based on your year of birth, but if a year older you may play with that age group if on 3/1/10, you are in the grade associated with the age group (e.g., 14U/9th) and have a properly completed AAU grade exception form.
To determine your age group, for girls AAU Basketball click here
for the
girls AAU web site age group calculator.
GIRLS EXAMPLES
1. If you are a girl who is 12 on 1/1/10 (born 1/1/97 or later), you are 12U, BUT if you are in 6th grade as of 3/1/09 (vs 7th grade) and born in 1996, you may play 12U with your classmates, most of whom were likely born in 1997 or later, BUT ONLY if you provide
the Girls AAU grade exception form with your school's verification of your grade.
2. If you are 12 on 1/1/10, but are academically in 8th grade you are not forced to play 13U as your birthdate (year) is the primary criteria to use when considering playing up or not.
3. If you are a girl born in 1996 and currently in the 8th grade, you are 13U. If you are in 8th grade and born in 1995 you are eligible to play 13U, but you must have the grade exception form filled out with verification of your grade from your school.

For Boys, the Age Group/Grade listing is Sr(HS), Jr/11th, 16U/10th, 15U/9th, 14U/8th, 13U/7th, 12U/6th, 11U/5th, 10U/4th, 9U/3rd, 8U/2nd, and 7U/1st.
For boys, your age group is based on age on 9/1/2010, but if a year older on that date, check grade on 3/1/2010. To determine your age group for boys AAU basketball

boys AAU website age group calculator, or
visit this link for the complete
AAU Boys Age/Grade Eligibility Rules(pdf file).
BOYS EXAMPLE: If you are a boy who is 12 on 9/1/10, and as of 3/1/10, you are in 6th grade, you are 12U. If you are 13 on 9/1/10 but in 6th grade on 3/1/10, you may qualify as 12U with grade exception (for Junior Divisions (8u-14u) limited to 3 per team) and you will need to provide the Boys AAU grade exception form (different from the girls form).
